Beginning of May. The south of France. Lavender fields at the entrance (not yet flowered) that give you a perspective on a splendid stone building. A majestic cypress alley. Cicadas singing, olive trees that set the tone. Yellow roses at the entrance, and a gorgeous sun. At the arrival, Julie & Guillaume, ready for their wedding. Are you starting to picture it? Well it was better than anything you have in mind.
I had dreamed about this marriage (yes let’s say it). I dreamed of photographing a wedding at this venue, Les Domaines de Patras, this crazy place in a small village in the Drôme Provençale where we had with my family a house for 25 years. I had an immediate crush on this touching couple. My encounter with Julie is quite special also since we ate cheese together on an island of Cambodia one evening in 2014 and we never saw see each other again since then. You have to admit it’s pretty special… So when she contacted me a few years later to photograph her marriage, it was impossible to say no.
These 3 days spent with them could be summarize at a pure good humor. I had already photographed them for their civil wedding in April, so I had a little idea of who where their loved ones. I forgot to tell you: Guillaume is the business partner (and one of the best friends) of Julie’s brother, still following me?
They managed to add so many emotions and laughter to this new day. Big up to the priest who put a crazy atmosphere at the wedding (it exists!). Between his jokes and the gospel singer, we spent our time laughing and crying (myself included). Thanks to them, I have lived one of the best masses of my life. What can be said next about this gargantuan cocktail, this couple who dances as soon as they can, or these couple photos before the storm arrives, this dinner in the illuminated barn.
It was the 2nd wedding of my season and I can tell you that I still have stars in my eyes and great memories. A big thank you obviously to you Julie & Guillaume for your generosity, for all these laughs that we have had. I wish you the best and much more again (but we saw each other several times since then so you know it). Thank you to everyone who was there for all you have kindly shared with me. And thank you to the whole team of Patras (and especially you Kety) for your welcome and your sharing.
